Many bedside cribs use a removable wooden mattress support board beneath the mattress. Over time these boards can become warped, damaged, mouldy, or go missing entirely  especially if the crib has been stored in a loft, garage, cupboard, or purchased second-hand.

In some cases, parents first notice the issue when the mattress begins sagging unevenly or no longer sits flat inside the crib.

WHEN SHOULD YOU REPLACE A MATTRESS BOARD?

If the mattress support board is cracked, warped, soft from moisture exposure, or showing signs of mould, it is usually a good idea to replace it.

Many parents also choose to replace the mattress board when replacing the mattress itself, particularly when buying a second-hand bedside crib from Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Vinted, or local selling groups.
